Venerable Dr. Khammai Dhammasami first came to Hungary to teach 20 years ago, and this retreat celebrates that important jubilee.
Sayadaw currently resides in Myanmar and is the founding Rector of the Shan State Buddhist University. His teachings extend far beyond the borders of his homeland, and the monasteries he has established attract thousands of students and practitioners across Asia and Europe.
As a senior monk, Sayadaw has founded, led, and served in numerous international academic and Buddhist organisations. He is deeply committed to preserving and spreading the teachings of Theravāda Buddhism while fostering meaningful dialogue between the Dhamma and contemporary scientific research.
Between 2006 and 2018, Sayadaw visited Hungary annually to offer teachings. Since 2018, he has regularly led retreats at the Erdőtelek Retreat Centre of the Open Mind Buddhist Community (OBV Hungary), an organisation established at his initiative.
This year’s three-day retreat in Erdőtelek offers another wonderful opportunity for members of the community and new participants alike to meet and practice with him.
Hungarian devotees often describe Sayadaw as the embodiment of wisdom and compassion. His presence is deeply impactful not only as a Buddhist monk and teacher, but also through his remarkable ability to understand and support the inner lives of those he meets.

Tiszteletreméltó dr. Khammai Dhammasami 20 éve érkezett először Magyarországra tanítani, ez az elvonulás ezt a jubileumot ünnepli. Sayadaw jelenleg Mianmarban él, és a Shan State Buddhist University alapító rektora. Tanításai túlmutatnak hazája határain és az általa alapított kolostorokban Ázsiában és Európában is tanítványok ezreit vonzzák. Sayadaw vezető szerzetesként számos nemzetközi egyetemi és buddhista szerveződésnek alapítója, vezetője, tagja, elkötelezett a theravāda buddhizmus tanításainak terjesztésében és a mai tudományos kutatásokkal való összekapcsolásában. Magyarországra már 2006 és 2018 között is évente érkezett tanítást adni, és 2018 óta a kezdeményezésére alapított Nyitott Tudat Buddhista Közösség erdőtelki elvonulóközpontjában tart elvonulásokat. Az idei három napos erdőtelki elvonulás ismét kiváló lehetőség a közösség tagjainak a vele való találkozásra. A magyarországi tanítványok sokszor mondják róla, hogy az együttérzés és a bölcsesség megtestesítője, hogy jelenléte nem csak szerzetesként, hanem terapeutaként is jelentős.
